m40c water pump question

finally got my m40c running.. wanted to ck and make sure water pump is good.. according to manual there is an idle port and also a pee hole.. i have water coming out of idle port but none out of pee hole.. i looked at it and it was clogged up.. got what dirt i could out but still no water.. any ideas on how to unclog the thing? i tried a weedeater string and can only get a few inches in there..

One trick we use is to blow compressed air into the telltale port while the motor is running in the tank.

You could also drop the lower leg and force water up the water uptake tube. Also remove the thermostat housing and the same process will backflush crud out of that area.

I recently had this problem on a Johnson 5hp and it took a fair amount of messing around to get it to flow. It's time well spent.

Remove rubber pee hose from the fitting on the cylinder head, then check and clean the hose, and probe the cylinder head fitting with a piece of wire to try to open it up. It could be a piece of deposit scale broke loose from inside cooling chambers and lodged in that fitting. Good Luck!
