M70A2 Overheat buzzer problems

Does anyone know how to check the overheat buzzer to see if it works ?
I know it should sound when the key is turned on but it doesn't. Water is flowing good with no problems, I would feel better if the buzzer would work.

You are mistaken. The overheat buzzer is intended to sound [only] when the motor exceeds the overheat sensor temperature. If you want to test the overheat circuit, information is in the Factory service manual for 2-Cylinder, 2-Cycle OB's, Part # 003-21035-1 $42.47. There is a wiring diagram at the back of the owner's manual on Tohatsu's website at http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/own_man_pdfs/Toh50C_60A_70A2.PDF. If you ground the Yellow wire of the overheat sensor (which is what happens if the motor overheats), the buzzer should sound.

hi there captain
i have a m70a2 and it is just a pull start deal witch works for me but i would like to have a battery on board to run some electronics fish finder etc
like i said it is a pull start so i does not have the original rectifier so i picked one up at radio shack ( read somewhere that that would do it ) and i know that i have to connect it to the white an yellow wires coming from the magneto but what then, do i just run it to the battery or what, any advise would be majorly helpful

Dunno. Depends on the rectifier. We use the Factory parts...

Well captain I'd like to know if the the while and yellow wires from the magneto connect to the original rectifier and if yes how would I go on after that
I have dc voltage readings of it now
How do I take it to the battery or is it as simple as running the wires of the rectifier to the battery

Yes. If you refer to the wiring diagram, you will see that the rectifier converts the AC from the alternator to DC. The Tohatsu products today also regulate the output. No way for me to know about the RS unit. From the rectifier, you feed the battery system. I do hope your rectifier is robust enough for the job... and without a regulator, be careful that you don't boil the battery dry if you aren't using enough amps from the charging system...
