Hi, I noticed yesterday that at a cetain low RPM, the telltale shoots water like a fast pulse, machine gun like. The stream is never broken or stops, but it hits the water and sounds funny. This isn't any concern is it? Thanks

Sounds to me that poppet valve is not seating correctly.

This should not cause any damage to the engine, but may prohibit temperature from comming up to operating level when running at slow speeds.

Hope this helps.

Kenny

Hi SS Minnow

What you have noticed with your telltale seems to be a normal characteristic with the the 75 and 90 hp engines, generally happens around 1600 to 2000 rpm, if you have a water pressure gauge you will notice the pressure will drop a bit also. It could be related to the poppet valve or the impeller is reaching the point where the vanes are changing shape as the motor picks up speed and forces water into the pickup. I have seen it on several motors both new and older ones, I don't think it is a problem those motors seem to pump a lot of water and run very cool.

Bob

Thanks for the reply. Have you heard of a squealing noise coming from the engine from time to time?
