It might be a gamble, but he says it started up. Well for the price it was worth the risk. (Well if the fuel tank and hose are in good shape, then that is worth about $40 bucks by itself....lol)

Ken, I'll let you know how it runs and compression and stuff.

Seller has been registered on ebay for 4.5 years, and has a zero rating?

You know you probably won't get the fuel tank, don't you? Shipping companies won't accept a used fuel tank.

Hmmmm, Let us know if you get the motor.

Agreed, no tank if it's been used.

Off topic ...
Don't the ratings on E-Bay go by your buying/selling actions over a certain time period? I've been a member since Jan 05 and have only 1 selling transaction and 5 buying trans...thought there was something about needing 10 ratings before they show
My first{and only} sale was a old Martin Guitar I bought from a neighbor for $50 bux and sold for $1325.00...glad that buyer wasn't too concerned about ratings lol

Back to the topic...great deal, hope it's everything you want it to be!

You said shipping companies won't ship used tanks. Well, I have bought used pressure tanks off of ebay on 2 separate occasions. I think they have to be empty and aired out. Oh well see:D

If I don't get it(the motor), then I can get my money back from Ebay protection or paypal protection.

But, I will post back when I get the motor.

I suspect the shipper did not disclose to the delivery company that there was a used fuel tank inside.

Hazmat shipping has gotten very sticky, and expensive, since 911.

Don't count your chickens until you get it. Very very strange that this is his first item sold or bought ever in over 4 years.

My bet is you'll recieve everything and be very happy, scams don't usually revolve around nickle dime stuff like an old outboard motor.

On the auction site, click on the guys userid. Gives his bio, interests etc.... Must be something new. I've never seen that before. He sounds legit to me. If not, he tells one heck of a good story....

I understand your concern and your right he does have low/no score, but it only shows activity for the past 12 months. Went back and dug a little more and he show a purchase in 2008 for a Bronco. So, there is one purchase activity.
I am normally I'm weary on making big purchases online from low or no score sellers, but this was too good to pass up. Since ebay now has purchase protection and also paypal protection, will be able to get my money back if it is a scam.

I hope it is legit, because that looks to be a nice well kept motor in original condition!:)

Either way I will update you guys!!!

Hope so too! That's good that there is some history. What I do when I pay with Paypal is use my credit card as my funding source. I once bought a video game from a guy and he sent me a copied disk of the actual fame if you can believe it. Paypal wouldn't help me at all. With the credit card you can file a dispute with the credit card company if Paypal doesn't help you.

Unless it turns out to be a real dog for some reason, looks like you made a great score. With all the various buyer protection programs, I don't think you have to worry too much.

I just went to my friend's shop to reinstall my outdrive. He has a 1968 johnson leaning up against the wall that looks just like that!

wow, if you get it..... that is a really good price.

$100 +/- for a 60's 10 horse that's in good running condition

I just paid $80 on an 'as is' 57 Rude 5.5 with a rusted (unusable) tank.
Looking back, I got a bit ripped off.... but who cares. It's a hobby.

True, the % rating only covers the past 12 months, but the feedback should still show all feedback. Mine are listed going back to '02.

Ebay also changed the feedback # a while ago, but all the feedbacks are still there.

I can't find any info on a Bronco.
Found info where he bought a crossbow.

If there is a problem, it would most likely be from someone else using his seller id. Ebay has made great strides to prevent id theft, but there are still plenty of thieves that are trying.

Personally, I would get the seller contact info from the link, then call him with the number listed. As the winner of the auction, you are given access to the sellers real life id info.
And you can google the guy once you have his real name and address.

Seems kind of funny to me that a guy that is retired from the OH dnr, wouldn't know the value of the motor.

Good luck.
