Folks,

Have been working on my rebuild for some time. I discovered a very effective filler. Since I had to do a lot of grinding, I produced a huge amount of a fine powder, which was a combination of fiberglass, gelcoat, wood and whatever else was being ground off.

I had a paper liner in my shop vac. I filtered this through a fine screen and wound up with a very fine powder. After doing a couple of tests I discovered the compound when mixed with epoxy resin could be made any consistancy, and was incredibly strong when set.

This has worked for me and I haven't seen any downsides to it yet. Heck, I figure it is the material the boat was constructed with anyway.

Keep this in mind when you need to mix up filler when setting new stringers, etc.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
