Got a 1/2" drill bit and some 1/2" dowel rod. Measured (about 10 times for each size) after cleaning the holes out with the drill (decent lookin wood came out). Sanded them down, then mixed my epoxy resin. Didn't make much (around 2" in a plastic cup .. yes, I got the 3:1 ratio correctly). Painted the inside of the holes, then painted the dowels with the epoxy, put the dowels in. Painted both sides (in and outside of the boat) with plain resin.

Then I had some leftover resin (actually, a bunch) so I got out the cabosil. Dumped in some and made a little less than a putty mixture. That sh** gets HOT in a hurry that way!

Spread it over the holes (1mm or so) on the outside of the boat. Will get to the insides tomorrow, probably.

Also will run a drill bit into the other holes in the back of the boat and fill in some more of that putty stuff in those, to seal em up good. Sunday or Monday I'll get all that sanded, then I'll call my buddy Dan (best friend / cant wait to go boating with me / good helper) and have him come over to horse that heavy motor on there (so i can mark / drill the new mounting bolt holes). Then I ought to be able to mount the motor on there. With the motor mounted, I can get it into water (trash can) and see whether or not I'm going to have to pull the LU...

How long do I actually have to wait to start sanding?

Re: Made progress today. :)

Went out and looked at the epoxy - it was hard, so away I went with Mr. Sander. Got all the rest of the blue crap (RTV silicone) off the transom, and sanded down the new epoxy work.

It looked really nice. I put another coat over the holes, as 2 or 3 of them went a little concave. I took a drill (much smaller than the 1/2" I used for the motor mount holes) and cleaned out the other holes in the back of the boat (swim step, depth finder, etc..) and made another batch of thickened epoxy. I filled those holes, too - along with the holes on the inside of the transom (hadn't done those yesterday). Sanded the inside of the splashwell and filled those holes, too (there was a non-clamped motor on that boat (or maybe two, judging by the holes)).

Was going to finish the sanding by tomorrow, however a friend of mine gave me 2 tickets to the KC Speedway race tomorrow (the 3rd) so I'll be there instead :)

I'll probably sand when I get home tomorrow.

Also filled a couple dings with the thickened epoxy.

One thing - Epoxy is some COOL stuff :)
