I can always tell when another year has passed on the forum. the posts for the quick fixes start. probably like mine two years ago asking about transom, stringer and floor repair. lol its funny because first there is denile and we research pourable stringers blah blah blah. I only have a small soft spot in my floor, how do I dry out this flotation foam, what do you mean I need all new interior, it just goes on. it almost makes me sad when the people concede and ask what do I do now I need floors, stringers, and transom. that where the magic wand would be great. its a huge job and not fun either. if the boat needs all that the drive needs love, the trailer needs love and the motor does to. so hang in there nubees get itchy and dirty we are here to help jimmy

And with that assessment, it is truly interesting to see the exact same rot in every boat. Like there was some rot factory that installs such soft wet soggy crumbling mushy wood. It never seems to be different. Always the same pictures of the same type rot...especially the transoms! That's when that sickening gut feeling hits you about "how did I get myself into to this?". But then the work starts and encouragement helps and some nice finished projects prevail...

Easy.... neglect and abuse are pretty much the cause.

Yeah, exposure to the elements doesn't do nice things to a boat.

Keep her covered up from the sun and dry and protected from the rain and she'll stay nice and healthy and pretty.

Yuup....just like a guy that I know at the lake for the past 4 years. He never covers his boat for the two weeks he is there and jokes about checking the rain guage after a storm! It was a beautiful boat but not any longer ...its neglected and abused, dirty filthy. One day that floating rain guage will sink to the bottom of the lake.

I tell ya, humans, and their toys. You can tell a bunch about a person by the amount of rot one has in their boat. And then how they see fixing it. There's the temp fix way, the wrong way and then the iboats way.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. That phrase tends to apply in most of life's situations.

it's not a magic wand but there is resolve from getting itchy, it's Magic powder. I just finished grinding down my transom and the first half left me itchy as all get out even with several layers it got in somehow. The second half I got smarter. I went into the bathroom stripped to my skivvies and covered (bathed) in baby powder. I looked like I had just finished grinding. Be very liberal put on lots and get it all over hair, neck, arms, legs, face and everywhere else. The only place I didn't put it was under my skivvies, which ironically is the one place it was made to go on babies at least. This fills the pores with baby powder, which doesn't itch, so the fiberglass dust has no where to go. Then put your clothes and safety equipment on and go grinding. When I got done I shook myself all off then took a cool shower. No immediate itch no lingering itch not even a next day itch. The only itch I got was from the lingering powder on the hull the next day when I was installing the new wood for the transom and that is a small spot on my forearm and I knew it as soon as I did it.

right....if I had a dime for everytime I got itchy after the fact. I could buy more plywood lol. as far as the magic wand its the pen in your check book ;) so I have one more category to ad. the frozen blocks uhg. I don't know about you guys but some times I can feel the hole in the stomach of the op. I truly do cry with everyone, I feel your pain. I think most people on the forums do care and know the feeling......we all have done stupid stuff....most of us can laugh and share with each other and dig in and fix it. I don't really think I have ever seen a really heated argument on here. just different opinions or a firm heads up from someone on safety.

Remember, A neat trick when you get that itch the wont quite go away, Use a fresh lint roller, peeling the sticky back often, and it will pull those little pieces right out of your skin!

Yup.
People see how much work it will actually take, and the cost, and they resort to bandaid fixes.
Then we see these boats advertised with a "new floor" like its some kind of bonus.
They all rot the same way.
Then there are the guys with rotten stringers that blindly say the "transom is solid". Why go through all that work and not do the transom? I know its a pile of work to remove a cap, but new stringers and a rotten transom?
