Magnetic Hooks?

I have an aluminum boat. I need a set of extra cleats near the shoulders or in front of the console to hang a bumper for when i'm docking.

I thought about installing a couple of cleats on the gunnel, but then I hate the idea of them getting in the way.

So I'm thinking about those super strong magnet hooks. Do you think this is a good idea? Or do I risk it interfering with my electronics?

I like the idea of moving it wherever I need it. Also, can be detached quickly and out of the way.

Magnets won't stick to aluminum or other non-ferrous metals, maybe suction cups or other trick? Good Luck!

Re: Magnetic Hooks?

what he said. you'd have to put a magnet inside and outside.

If all you'r edoing is hanging a bumper or other light-duty use, put a small nylon cleat, or there are other small fittings you can put there, like a loop or an eye.

These are also a nice alternative to cleats:

Stainless Steel Fender Locks

I had them on my Bayliner, and will be putting them on my new boat this winter. I like that they are almost flush mount, and out of the way.

LOL thats ok.......any chance you can tell us where you boat so we can watch you launch!!:D

lol last summer, my 1st time owning a boat. I wasnt horrible, but I wasnt great.

Never towed anything before or even backing up with a load.

This past summer, after 1 full year of backing up, I'm pretty good at it now. Not great, but good enough to be in and out. I still have a problem going straight back a long distance.

Seriously.... a pair of good C-clamps would work nicely.... put it where you want it , when you want it...a million other uses will appear if you have a couple aboard..

lol, i've been out of school too long.

That about made me spit my coffee out. That's one of those questions where your mouth and keyboard work long before your brain catches up, then you realise it and like "damn I knew that" lol. No worries happens to us all.

I liked the suction cup idea myself. Let us know what you come up with.

So I ordered the Taylor Made fender locks. Amazon had it on sale, so I bought it from them. I've actually had it for a couple of weeks now I think, but just never looked at it closely. I took a quick look just to see what they looked like and set them aside.

So I was moving some stuff around and happen to notice something odd. Took a closer look and they are not the same! LOL. Just emailed Taylor and lets see what they say.
