So i have a stupid question. about a month ago I picked up a set of magnetic trailer lights (from autozone) for towing a trailer home that had no lights. I have used them about 5 times and the magnets are all warn out. They don't stick to anything now. I like having them around, they come in handy. Can someone point me towards a pair that will last at least a couple years?

thanks.

Surprised they are worn out !!!
Velcro works great, wet or dry.

I have a cheap set from harbour freight, and have used them probably hundreds of times over about 5 or 6 years. They still stick like the day I bought them. And if you watch the sale paper you can get them for $15 a couple times a year.

The HF one's were just on sale for $9.99, I grabbed up two pair myself.
I also have an older professional set that came from a tow truck supply company, those have much stronger magnets but the HF ones do just fine. I'm not sure though if I'd hang them on the side of a trailer frame rail though, I doubt they'd be there when I got home.

I did one better though for towing boats and old trailers, I mounted a pair of old trailer lights to a pair of spring clamps like you use for gluing wood, I just clip them on the transom of the boat or the last cross member and go. I've been thinking of making up a set using LED lights too.

I too have a set from HF and recently towed a boat trailer from Phoenix to Sacramento using these lights. However, I also used a couple of electrical zip ties securing them to the trailer frame just for peace of mind.

My mind tells me the magnets will last longer if not left stuck to metal when not being used.

If they are good quality magnets maybe it does not matter.?

Some states do not allow such lights as regular, primary full time lights and are considered to be not properly secured. For emergency towing purposes only.

But if I wanted to I would use them anyways.

My $9.99 HF models have worked well so far.

hf lights here too... I use them when I tow my jeep behind my 5th wheel to work out of state

I have had them for a few years and they work great..... btw I store them stuck to the side of my tool box at home of my 5th wheel hitch while working
