Re: magnum 350 tournament skiray ignition identification help

Since it was a 92 engine, it was the Thunderbolt IV ignition system, I would bet the ignition module is also missing and probably the connecting harness.
Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra money to replace it. You could save about half by getting a Delco EST distributor for it and be done with all those expensive modules.
Here is an example.

I'd go with Don. In my experience UK suppliers don't keep much in stock and order it from US suppliers anyway (and put their mark up on it).
Distributor kit..Ref: GLM 71250
Price: ?199.00 + vat
Coil kit..Ref: GLM72115
Price: ?33.00 +vat and your gonna need plug leads and maybe coil harness?
The kit Don supplied the link for (everything you need) works out at ?220 +shipping.

You really didn't specify which one you was looking at, and those a really small pictures and hard to see exactly what they are. The one on the upper left looks like a Thunderbolt distributor, but do you have the module or not? The modules cost more than the distributor.
The second one down on the left PN BARR550002 kind of looks like the EST distributor kit, and has everything.

Again, you never mentioned if you have the ignition module and wiring needed for the Thunderbolt distributor to work.

Yes, I know, and he has a carbed engine, so whats the problem? I just don't know what EXACTLY he is trying to do and if he has the module or not.
That is why I am asking HIM questions.

Re: magnum 350 tournament skiray ignition identification help

hi yes that was the one i was refering to BARR550002 thought i linked to it but got distracted
it is a magnum 350 tournament ski carb setup but all the dizzy, modules, wiring coolant hoses has been nicked off it.
needs a trailer and prop as well hes asking 1500 for it but think its a bit dear unless i can reweld and strenghten the trailer which would save me a load

cheetah was woundering about that but what would import tax and shiping be on that?

I suspected as much.
Does the engine turn over? I would be afraid that there could be some 0 compression on a cylinder or two, which was the reason he was selling parts off of it. With all that gone, and a dead trailer (you can't weld rust), they should probably be paying you to haul it off to the scrap yard.

That would have to come from the seller

Re: magnum 350 tournament skiray ignition identification help

the history as we know is the owner never paid his mooring fees for 12 yrs so the land owner has took the boat as payment as he has had no contact off the origianal owner for many years ,he is selling as payment and will give a reciept, he did try a couple of years ago and got it running but then someone stole the ignition system and other parts off it, so im at this point thinking of trying a compression test and if all ok try to get the price down some more but thinking it might be more hassel than its worth.

that kit from the uk is everything but the wiring harness and interupter switch would that be a problem or is it easy enough to wire up a interupter switch? or will ther be a switch already on the lever?

Re: magnum 350 tournament skiray ignition identification help

I don't think I would want to be trying a compression test on an engine with no distributor. You would not be running the oil pump, and those bearings have been sitting dry for a long time. I would go looking for an automotive distributor or an old junk marine distributor just to operate the fuel pump and direct oil flow while cranking.

Re: magnum 350 tournament skiray ignition identification help

Why would the oil pump not be working because the distributor is out? Not worked on one of these before

Ayuh,... The oil pump is driven by the distributer gear off the cam shaft....
That's what the slot, 'n key on the bottom of the distributer shaft are...
