Main Fuse Evinrude 40HP 1984 model

Can anyone please tell me the rating of the main fuse at the rear of engine inside cover for Evinrude 40Hp Model no BE40ELCR 1984. thank you.JBD

Not positive on the 1984, but it is a 20A fuse on my 1995.

Many thanks Upinsmoke you have been great help,the seller told me to check fuse as it regularly stopped boat, looked at it to find house fuse of 13amp pushed into holder and about 2feet of duck tape wrapped round it to hold it in, but spent several hours yesterday trying to locate proper fuse (evinrude one is shorter than house one) with no success,all dealers say it is main evinrude dealer, here in south west coast of Scotland things are few and far between, JBD

I had the same problem. I found replacements<br />at Radio Shack. Don't know if you have those, but any electronics store should stock them.

On my buddy's 1989 48spl, the fuse was (if memory serves) an AGA 20 amp, about 3/8" or so long. Good luck.<br /><br />John

If sourcing the proper fuse is a problem, why not purchase a fuse holder that's commonly available in your area. Cut out the existing one and splice in the new. Electrics have no nationality so those electrons will never know.

many thanks to everyone for help, I have been trying to get proper fuse to keep everything as original as possible, but so far I can't get one this fuse is 5/8th inch long, was at boat jumble here over weekend and most people reckoned I wouldn't get one? they also said cut out rubber Evinrude one and replace, I have never seen fuse of that length? JBD

Do an on-line search. There has to be a gazillion fuse suppliers in this country who could supply you with some. Check the metal cap at each end of the fuse for its identifiers. They are sometimes hard to read but a magnifying glass works.

Just to conclude the issue I managed to get 4 AGA 20amp fuses from dealer in England, cost over £7 for them but I wanted to keep it original, many thanks to all who helped JBD
