Maintenance Free Batteries damage packs?

In another post they recommended going to this site for information on charging systems: outboardparts.com <br /><br />Why do they recommend not to use Maintenance Free Batteries? How will the battery blow the packs? I have 2-brand new Maintenance Free, shall I discard and buy new? <br />I have twin 1992-150 hp Evinrudes<br /><br />thanks<br /><br />Mike

Hello<br /> never heard of batteries blowing packs since all omc went to flywheel cd ignition. the reason for the reccomendation is that marine charging systems are not as well regulated as auto's.<br /> thus they tend to need water added more often. most maint free batteries will have shorter lives but if you can live with it its no worries.<br /> good luck
