I have an OMC set up in my boat. I am having some issues with the upper gear case, but I have them figured out now and on the way to being fixed. Anyway, I keep reading on this forum about manuals for OMC and everyone keeps saying get the "factory OMC manual". I have one on order and it should be here any day, but I have never seen one. But I have seen the Clymer and Seloc ones. The first one I was using was the Clymer. It was hard to follow and seemed to be very vauge and not many pictures for someone new to boat maintenance, but being the first manual that I have seen I was happy to have it. It was only after I had seen a seloc manual, did I realize how much the Clymer was missing. It had more pictures, better explanations and seem to fill in the blanks that the clymer manual left me with, at least with the repairs that I was doing on my stern drive. So if the "factory" OMC manual is suposed to be the better one out of the three, I can't wait to get it.
Now, I haven't used the manuals for anything else except the stern drive on my boat so I don't know about the rest of the manuals, but if you are looking at getting a manual, I would suggest the seloc over the clymers, just because of the comparison on the sterndrive section. I would have to think that the rest of the manual would be set up the same manner.
I am new to the I/O boat repair area so I don't speak with much experience, But I can read and understand mechanics and this is just my opinion.

I hope this help someone.

Re: maintenance manuals

That makes scence. I would hope that the manufacturer would know their product the best. And if I take it upon myself to do the maintenance on my own equipment and screw it up because of wrong or poor procedures, it's no bodys fault but my own. I guess thats why there is certified dealer shops.
