Hello to all. I have a 1986 Johnson 60VRO inline 3 cylinder. VRO was removed when I got it, so I just mix the fuel/oil. Anyway, what do I need to do for routine maintence on this thing. It hasn't given me any problems except for H2O in lower unit which I'm going to get that resealed. I know about sparkplug replacement, changing gear case lube, reason for the pee hole, how to start it and shift gears. Any suggestions as to what needs greasing, lubrication that I can't see or anything I just need to know in general about boat motors would be greatly appreciated. It's my first boat and motor and it's great. I didn't winterize it this past winter because in southeast Texas, we fish all year long. So no need to really winterize it. If someone can tell me, I would like to know if it has an overheat buzzer and how to check. The motor ID is: G7117724

I thank all of you that have posted to my other post's. Thanks

TakeEm

TakeEm, There is an alarm buzzer in your control box.To test, locate the tan colored temp sensor wire leading from the overheat sensor just to the left of the T/stat cover near the top sparkplug location. With the key in the "on" position (engine not running)ground the tan lead to the block by either backprobing with a test lead or peeling back the insulating sleeve at the wire connector.Buzzer should sound.Another way to test , with the key in the "on" position ,is to lift the fast idle lever of the controls and if equipped with a test slot, insert a key or similar metal object into slot which completes the alarm circuit and the buzzer should sound.Good luck.

Oh,and ditto on Middlegrounds recommendation of an engine specific manual.
