New to the forum,

Just purchased a boat with a 2000 Yamaha 200 OX66 Saltwater series engine.

Runs great, and I want it to stay that way. I have not owned a lot of outboards, and do not have a "regular" mechanic to service it.

WHAT DO I DO TO KEEP IT IN TOP NOTCH SHAPE?

Type of gas?

Should I pay the extra for the "super premium" oil? Or is the $12-15 per gallon Pennzoil or West Marine oil OK?

SHould I pay the money and bring the motor in once a yeear for service, or is that something a reasonably mechanically minded "non-mechanic" can do?

Thanks for the help, glad to have this forum.

Re: Mainteneance / Upkeep 200 OX66

go to a yamaha dealer, ask for a copy of the OX66 maint schedule.
follow it.
remember its hours OR time whichever occurs first.
its easy but requires time.
you will have to purchase a service manual and some test equipment.
no other way around it.
87 octane is the recommended fuel but I will reccomend using the yamalube 2m due to the O2 sensor.
I dont know if the other brands additive package will adversly affect it.

Thanks for the info RodBolt.

I will use the Yamalube 2M exclusively, luckily there is a local dealer who sells it bulk.

From other posts it sems that using the Ring Free is also recommended, it is rather pricey. SHould this be used all the time?

Is it OK to use regular gas, 87 octane, or stick with premium?

I think I answered the fuel octane issue once, you do as you wish.
ring free is reccomended, I usually dont run it at 1 oz to 10 gallons on the ox66 motors usually for regular running I stay with the older 1 oz to 15 gallons.
seems to help but I dont know.
when ya break it down its only another doller or so per tank of gas.
do the math.
