OK, I will do my best to describe the situation. I purchased a 1992 Corsair Sunbird with a 4.3/cobra omc from my uncle 3 weeks ago. We went out for a ride and 10 minutes into the ride the boat died in mid flight at about 2500 rpms (never had any engine noise). Tried to restart it and got 0 response (like a dead battery at first). pulled the doghouse and the exhaust manifolds were very hot! Too hot to lay my hand on them. I am a freak about watching the gauges and the temp gauge never went past half way. long story short we got towed back in, let it cool down and put the muffs on to try and start it. It turned over very slowly like a dead battery or tight motor. So we put the charger on it and tried it again. Got it started and it ran for about 5 minutes and came to a sudden shutdown. Motor cranked really slow again. Like the timing was advanced or a dead battery. The rest of the day was beer and sitting in the lake. The next morning we tried it again with the muffs and she ran for about 1 minute made some really strange noise (loud whirling from the lower unit) and suddenly stalled. I can only think of two things that have changed. The weekend of the fourth we had rough water on the lake and the boat ended up drive first into the sand (drive was up) then bow first into the beach and I had to put her in reverse (drive down) to get the boat out of the bushes (bad situation). The boat ran fine back to the launch after that though. Then this weekend BEFORE taking it out we changed the lower unit oil just prior to this happening. We used OMC oil and it took about 1.5 quarts to fill it. 10 minutes in the water and it was dead. So in short the exhaust seemed hot to the touch when it first stalled (i will call it locking up)and then the outdrive seems to be making very loud whining, whirling noises and locking up out of the water and is hard or slow turning over after it dies. Any ideas? I am going to take it to the shop when we get back to the lake house next weekend. The only thing we did try was to take out the thermostat on the last try when it locked up. I thought maybe it was overheating and the gauge was not showing it. But the engine sounds great and never rattled pinged or anything. The boat has been very well taken care of and looks like new. This whole sitaution is screwy. My unlce had the boat for 7 years and never had any issues at all. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Rob
