On a windy day my t-top can make it difficult to control the boat under trolling motor speed. I'm interested in having my t-top support tube cut and adding some type of splice or coupling with a set screw or something similar to allow me to remove the t-top. Has anyone done this before or know how I might proceed.

you cut the tubes and put an insert inside the top tubes, that will fit into the lower tubes, with a locking pin. you need some kind of caps to the permanent part of the tubes.

Ayuh,..... 1st off you need to know the Inside diameter of the Tubing there now......
you need some kind of caps to the permanent part of the tubes.

Or,...
Drill a Drain Hole near the base,+ you've got Rod Holders,............;)
