Anyone had luck cobbing together a gear lube oil reservoir, ala gen 2, for their gen 1? Looks to me like a simple thiing to do rather than shelling out $100 for SEI's.
Thanks,
Richard

I cobbled one up using a radiator overflow tank, couple of brass fittings to go through the transom, old aluminum lube pump drive fitting, 4-5' of fuel hose and clamps. Probably 1/2 price of the SEI kit, and works well. I replace the exterior hose every couple of years so it doesn't fail from UV damage.

The reservoir serves 2 purposes- to have on hand extra oil in case of loss of oil, and to give an indication of the oil level, both visually and with an audible alarm in case of low oil. (that's why it's called a lube monitor). When you figure out how to "cobble up" the alarm, let us know.
