Makes me sad when everyday I'm driving and see tons of boats outside without covers or anything just chilling in the yard. Most are older 90s boats but do see a couple 2000's, mentioned it to this guy I was delivering to that has a 2000's bayliner just sitting in his yard exposed to the elements and he's said, "boats are made to get wet ".

It's same feeling when seeing engines laying un flushed after used at sea and hearing owner saying "they are fabricated to work & hold salt pretty well, are outboards....

Happy Boating

My response is "Boats are made to keep water out. Bath tubs are made to hold water in>"

It may be sad, but just remember many of them will be bought by someone who will swear "the boat is really solid and just has a soft spot on the floor". :)

Thinking the same seeing a late 90s-early 2000s Maxxum sitting outside unprotected on my way to work everyday. I've considered stopping & saying something or putting a note on the boat but it's really not my place.

I totally feel you. Even just a tarp will do it for people who can't dish out all the cash to have one made, may not look nice but way better than nothing.

That's sad, I have a 2003 maxum 1900sr and love it. It's one of the only boats made during that time in the cheaper bowrider price range that has a nice enough swim platform that you don't have to add an extended swim platform.

The one pictured isn't mine but same model as mine and I really like the platform in the back. And it's got the glass over plywood floor not carpet over plywood.

I hate when I see that kind of thing. Even at my mechanics, he isn't a big fan of covering things which is weird because he spends loads of time cleaning before he works on the engine. There are boats there which were left there and have been uncovered for years.

The sad thing is it takes all of ten minutes to mitigate much of the damage from not covering at all with a couple of tarps.

it's kind of like that friend we all have who instead of covering his riding mower he leaves it out all winter and then cry's when it wont start and the thing falls apart 3 yrs later blaming the company that built it for his woes .think same goes for boats but eh it does make for some nice deals sometimes for those of us willing to fix others mistakes :)

i hate seeing this too! I wonder if boat manufactures should put a sticker on how to protect the boats better.

There is a guy down the road from me who was trying to selling an I/O trihull all summer, likely around 19' long or so. It's on a nice shorelander trailer, and the gelcoat is in great shape. He's moved it around the yard a few times, and it eventually ended up on a spot he leveled off and put up one of those steel garages. It disappeared for a while when the weather started to really turn bad, and then showed back up about a week later. It sat outside uncovered through the first few snow storms we had here until he finally got around to throwing a cheap blue tarp over it. I didn't see any provisions for tarp supports, so I'm betting with the snow we got last night the tarp is already sagging under the weight and will likely collapse soon.

As we drove by it the other night my wife looked over and said "that poor boat!" It should be interesting to see what happens with it next spring.

He also has a nice 57 chevy I've never seen move that sits out by the road. He would throw a tarp over it weighed down with a few old tires for the winter. At least it is now inside his new garage.

actually they do its called a owners manual .. you know that thing most of us throw out with the packing material as useless read since we already know everything? :) especially if it even remotely says MAP or assembly instructions men just shut down at that point and toss it out :)

Don't feel sad, those neglected boats with rotted hulls and shredded interiors are great donor boats for engine swaps. Well, that's if they took better care of the engine than they did the "boat"...
