Making an exhaust boot

The exhaust bellow is completely separated on my outdrive. As far as I could find, there is no "boot" available for my outdrive (listed in my signature). I'm sure the other two bellows are soon to follow, so, of course, I'll be changing them. I'd like to switch from exhaust bellow to a boot.

This is my thought: The right diameter auto radiator hose, with the right bend, at the right point. Clamp it on with the same SS band clamp which holds the bellow.

What are your thoughts? :D? or :(?

The exhaust bellows is not all that critical though on a Merc or Cobra... (my last Cobra went 15 years without an exhaust bellows.)

Ayuh,.... Probably Easier to cobb on a Mercruiser tube,...
Rather than huntin' down, 'n cuttin' up a automotive radiator hose...

Yes, I did. I've been trying to find an exhaust boot, as opposed to another bellow. I've done many, many searches and have come up with nothing.

Thank you, though. I do know that the exhaust bellow is not critical, but I want to keep my transom free of exhaust stains.

Thanks Bond-o. I have thought about that. Yamaha based their design on OMC's design and

improved upon it. I'm not sure what the improvements are, but the courts decided that Yamaha hadn't

improved upon the design enough to clear patent rights, so Yamaha lost that battle. Anyway, the

reason I'm bring that up, is because I had been thinking about your idea with an OMC boot. The OMC

boots are very short, though. The Mercruiser boots curve upward into the drive a little. It makes sense

to me, that this would keep more exhaust off the transom, cutting down a little on staining. Do you know

the inner diameter of Mercruisers exhaust boot at the connection point?

Thanks again.
