I have been working on my 1995 Sun Chaser pontoon boat for a few weeks, have posted two threads and have gotten a lot of help. I decided to change out the console for another that i have.
Can't get the wheel off ! Ran nut to end of stud, liberally sprayed PB Blaster, tapped, pried, wiggled, etc. Removed front and sides of console, laid wheel on deck and sprayed from back, let it sit overnight. No change. Friends have suggested heat and or cold, wanted to ask the forum first.
The spray, tap, pry has been going on every day for a week, as the title says, Making me crazy !
Also tried a wheel puller but can't get a good bite. Thought about bolting it on. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Making me crazy !

Leave the nut on the threaded shaft FLUSH with the end of the shaft. Get a big hammer.

Position yourself so that you can get your knees behind the wheel and apply as much "up" pressure on it as you can. Maybe a helper can grab onto the wheel and pull up hard instead. At the same time, smack the nut/shaft quite hard with the big hammer. It might take a couple hits, but it should come off. The trick is to get alot of preload on the wheel before you hit the shaft. The nut protects the threaded part of the shaft.

It will pop off very abruptly, so watch your balance.

If the steering wheel hub has threaded holes 1/4" you can buy/borrow/rent a wheel puller at most auto supply stores to pull the steering wheel of with. Otherwise do as Moody stated. JMO

I find that both methods combined works great as well. If there are threaded holes use the puller and keep the nut on as suggested. When you get the puller real tight use the upper legs to add force. Take the hammer and tap hard at the puller bolt. Retighten and repeat as nessecary. The nut will protect the threads on the helm shaft. It wil pop when it goes so be sure the nut is well on the threaded area as not to get poped yourself when it gives. If there are no threaded holes, make some with a bit and tap. Then proceed. Pullers can be rented at any autozone or the like. JMO

FINALLY! All we had to do was hit it harder, but the days of spraying blaster probably didn't hurt. Have now removed the old console, made some minor repairs to the deck, and rebuilt and reattached the three carbs.
Soon as i can install the newer console that i have we should be ready to crank her up. Thanks again for the insight, you guys are tops !

If things do not go right after this, just give us another post and we'll be more than happy to help solve most all problems.

Anytime I tryed pulling mine yesterday and the dang adapter broke. 30.00 for a replacement. I had to tighten up the helm bolts as the wheel was wobbly. as well as re suport the dash. No biggy.
