So I have a question for sub boxes. I scored a good deal on 2x10" sub and 800w amp I want to add to my boat.

They did not come with boxes so I need some. I'm looking at split boxes one to go under each helm/console

I was looking at getting these sealed 10" boxes from walmart/amazon, problem is they are MDF/particle board and if the get wet they will fall apart. So I was thinking of getting these and coating them inside and out (over the box carpet) with fiber glass resin (maybe chop strand?) then some bondo to get them smooth and some paint (enamel paint with gel coat hardener)

has anyone done this before?

the boxes:

Even sealed, mdf will fail. It should not be within 20 feet of any boat. By the time you do all the glass work and filler, you may as well have bought marine grade plywood, or construction grade and just built them yourself.

Look for sub boxes normally sold/marketed for Jeeps. Offer water resistance and usually make of visually appealing plastic. Grub is right, MDF swells just on humidity alone
