Im thinking about making an entry step for my boat mounted on the transom, Ill simply make my steps in ply and then fibreglass them, now providing the lowest step doesnt protrude below the transom its not going to upset the performance or is it? it wouldnt act like a trim plate? Im getting older and stiffer and fatter these days getting in the boat of the boat ramp is starting to be a real chore and its even more difficult if we take the oldies out with us so a step on the back will make life easier, interested in any comments, I dislike the flimsy after market ladders etc that are available

anything protruding below the waterline will have a negative affect on the boat when underway.

regarding swim ladders, remember, there are the low $ ones, and the sturdy ones. there are no low $ sturdy ones. At work we came up with a small hydraulic swim step that can be lowered into the water to assist in getting back on the boat, and raised to get underway. there are also flip down swim steps on extended swim platforms that work very well.

What Boat? I'm assuming the 16' Cuddy Cabin? Pics always help us to help you. If we can see what you are trying to accomplish then we can better improvise a solution. Photobucket is a great way to upload pics and then use the IMG Code to copy them into iBoats.

Sorry forgot to add my current boat to my list of boats owned, currently Im working on a 17 foot Stebercraft open runabout, Stebercraft is a local Aussie manufacturer who have been around forever and build seriously good strong boats that take a hammering and some, when I got my my boat it had a really old Volvo Penta Stern Drive, it was an unknown thing the boat sat idle for 15 years in a shed, everywhere i looke don the Volvo Engine I was seeing siezed and corroded parts the leg wa solder then jesus himself so I thought bugger it off and fit an outboard, this has entailed much work as the transom needs lots of work and ive found abit of wood rot here and there but nothing that is beyond me, Im not a young fella anymore and not as agile as I once once climbing into a boat is a young mans thing I wish to do it with grace and not go A over T in the process, my favorite ramp can be very choppy at times so pointing the bow North, climbing in, getting it started, getting others in all while trying to not be smashed up the ramp is a challenge, this is why I need the transom mounted steps. I shall stick some pics of her up.
