Hey guys I know this topic is beaten to death but this is my first time so I just want to make sure I do it right.
I have a 120 mercruiser in an 86 starcraft. I ran the engine and fogged the carb. then removed the plugs and fogged cylinders as well. Then I found 2 drain plugs on the port side (are there only 2?) I removed them and got a lot of water out. Then I pulled the 2 hoses at the front of the engine and poured antifreeze down them until it poured out of the thermostat housing and exhaust ports.
Outdrive is stored in the down position and gear oil/engine has been changed.

Did I miss anything? I wasn't sure if I should have removed the waterline on the engine coming from the outdrive.

Also I have a 3.0 Mercuiser sitting in my garage that I did this same process to however when fogging it, I could not start the engine. Is that an issue? Or is simply spraying into the carb good enough?
Really don't want a cracked block this spring.
Thanks a lot!
Brad

Exhaust manifold . . . is there a drain plug on the exhaust manifold? Sounds like it might still be full of water if you only drained the engine block.

I’m pretty sure I drained the exhaust manifold. It was a small gold plug upside down on the port side of the engine.
And then for the block I drained another gold plug that almost looked like a wing nut.
I’m assuming those are the only two plugs?
Thanks

The big hose on the front (circulation pump) you pulled that off on the bottom first before filling with AF, right? That holds a lot of water. The other hose that goes from the transom mount to the thermostat housing, you should disconnect and point it down in the bilge to drain. Then with the outdrive down, fill that hose with antifreeze till it comes out the water intake of the outdrive. This will push water out of the impeller housing in the lower unit, if any did not drain.

Some people drain the exhaust elbow on the aft end of the manifold. There should be a brass plug.

When you fog through the carb with the motor running it coats the cylinders. No need to remove the spark plugs.

If the motor isn't running there's no point in spraying storage spray down the carb.
In that case, remove the plugs and spray down each hole.

Does that engine have power steering and a cooler?

If it does have a P/S cooler then draining that raw water intake hose is important, hold it down to drain, then hold it up with the outdrive down all the way and fill it with no tox -100 marine antifreeze...
