male fuel connector for Suzuki 6

I am contemplating buying a used Suzuki 6 on line. I cannot see and touch the motor. The seller says that the male fuel connector (the one that is on the motor not the one that is on the line) is not attached. He tells me I can easily attach any male fuel connector. Is this true. Do you just screw in a new one whether it is a Susuki or Johnson (which is what I really need). Do I have to connect a hose to the back of the male fuel connector or is that already done "behind the scenes"? Also the seller is not sure of year of the engine...can someone please tell me how I can figure this out with the serial number. Thanks for your help.
