I have had the privilege of seeing three giants of human beings and their influence on freedom of others in my lifetime. First was Mohandas Gandhi, next was Martin Luther King Jr and the final one passed away today; Nelson Mandela, perhaps the greatest of all. May you rest in honored peace, Nelson Mandela. You made the earth a better place for all human beings.

Re: Mandela

He sure changed the world for the better, I and most of us, could only hope to be 1/100 percent as great as him and the others you mentioned.

Rest in Peace, Mandela, you will be remembered fondly with grace.

Yeah, tough ol' bird. I gotta say, to go through what he went through and still hang in there for 95 years, that's a level of tough I can't even comprehend. And his absolute insistence on pulling it together through sport. RIP and Salute.

I remember when the whole South African thing happened I was in Jr. High School. He has always been an icon for me. It was real interesting being that age and figuring out that the world did not operate the same as my middle class white suburb.

Re: Mandela

About time I read his book.

I know a few people from South Africa. Sad day for them.

Thing is, in spite of all the injustice and indignities he endured, he remained a man of peace. Peace was his message. Imagine spending 10,000 days and nights in prison unjustly, and then coming out preaching peace and tolerance.

He was one in a billion.
