Hi All;
I started up my engine this spring to give it a once over. The motor is a 1989 4.3L Mercruiser with an Alpha One Gen One sterndrive.

While timing the engine I notice at idle the battery was being charge at around 12.1V, (this is an option I can select on my timing light). I reved the engine to 3000 RPM to see if the votage would increase, There was no increase.

I'm thinking the volatge regulator is toast. The Alternator is a Mando.

My question is there any rebuild kits available for this alternator. Also could I swap it out for a one wire style. I saw one on the internet for $99.99, it is labled as "POWDER COATED DELCO MARINE ALTERNATOR MERCRUISER 1-Wire".

All input and any help is much appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

I cant see any reason why you couldn't use that alternator. Depending upon your set up, you might need to change some wiring... but the alternator would work.

Not a big fan of one wire alternators due to the fact they can't sense battery voltage. Better off sticking with oem type alt.
