I replaced the regulator on my mando alternator on a 1987 4.3 liter. The new regulator excitation wires are blue and red. the harness wires are red/purple and purple. Is it safe to say the purple harness wire should be connected to the new blue wire and the harness red/purple to the new red wire? Is there a chance of damage is they're reversed?

purple is the "switched" wire , 12v with ign on, red/purple is "sense" constant 12v. If reversed the motor will not shut off

I connected the red/purple to the regulator red and the purple to the regulator blue. Cross your fingers.
