Hi all. I fish(ed) a mixed bag of trolling baits,Natural, lures and plugs.
I like the manns because they are big and can really take a punch and troll deep.
The thing is I noticed that they dont troll straight,They seem to swim into the middle of the wake no matter how close or how far behind the boat I troll them.
All of them seem to do this and it got me baffled.
Since I am in the process of redecking my boat I do not fish at the moment but when I do I would like to use the manns again,
They do catch fish,I think they just could do better.
The swimming lip is plastic so I cant adjust the action..
I also tried slowing down as well as going faster but it does not help either.
Are they supposed to swim like this?
all replies appreciated.

Can you bend the attachment loop, or is it recessed into the lip? Have you tried trolling slower?

It does not work.I have tried it.
Its very weird cause If it was just a batch that was not constructed right, it would make sense you know,But I have aquired these manns years apart..
Lol :Dyou really raced through my post,You ask if I tried trolling slowerLOL:D read again!
anyway thanks for the interest and tip.

Hey island mike,

Which one are you using, the Stretch? Are you tying a cinch knot or a loop?

I've used them in the past, fast trolling for Wahoo.

Re: Manns 35+ trolling plug question.

The stretch lures are designed to run at specific depth at any speed. Going slower or faster will not change that.

Count yourself lucky if your lures track in a reasonably straight line. Most run erratic out of the box and you spent a lot of time trying to get them to follow the boat. I’ve had lures run from run from one side of the boat to the other side more times than I care to remember. They catch fish, but can be very troublesome on a spread.

use a loop knot and slightly bend the metal loop where it comes out of the plastic to tune it. i wish i had your problem, better yet lets trade i'll send you mine i have some that go left some go right, and some that look like a fighter jet trying to shake a bogy off it's tail! you can also play around a little with a thin clear piece of plastic that is about 1"x3" a few holes in it with a hole punch and make a "planer" out of it it should sit at the swivel at your leader and can help swing it just out side the wake instead of straight back. but that can cause a cut off if there are cuda/kingfish/wahoo around

Re: Manns 35+ trolling plug question.

One would think that a lure moving from left to right is better right? more eratic action, equals more fish....
But anyway mine just swim into the middle of the wake, of course it does not swim directly in the wake since it dives deep, funny thing is when i use the 20+ stretch, They do the same and these DO swim directly in the wake..
I will try bending the metal insert and see what it does,Again this will be when my boat is done,(Never ending story)
but I am just collecting knowledge untill the day arrives..
Thanx for all your replies my friends much apreciated.

I use wire on mine also, i mike, 18 to 24 inches of it. I also use a swivel between the mono and the wire.

What do you fish for?

Get that boat done!:D

PS: Name is Mike and I live on a smaller island than yours.

Re: Manns 35+ trolling plug question.

I know the problem, i mike.....you need another boat! Maybe move up to a 60footer:rolleyes:

Our island has a bridge to the mainland....where all the rules apply.

Have you ever used the Yo Zuri Bonita? I've caught more Wahoo and Tuna on that lure than any other. It also likes to fast troll. The orange one is my favorite.

Not much labor work done today. Catching up on paperwork. I've been working and playing hard the past few weeks. Giving my body a break!

Keep the dirty side down, my friend.

You definitely want them to troll straight. That way when you have more than one out they don't get all scrambled. It's fine that it's in the middle of your wake as you'd see if you were even 15 feet down (scuba) its a different world below the surface wake. 30-35ft down is a long way, other than the noise and shadow, you'd never know there was a boat.
