I am restoring a 1962 Boston Whaler and am in need of a cable drum steering hub. This is the drum where you wrap the old tiller cable clockwise on 1/2 the drum and counter-clockwise on the other half, then proceed to run the cables to the motor via pulleys.
What I need is the drum itself (that the cable wraps around below the dashboard).
Anyone have a source for this item?????
Thanks,
Mac

Mac

Those steering drums were discontinued many years ago due to safety issues.

You may want to post on
www.continuouswave.com/whaler
Some of the guys there that have converted to new style steering may have one available.

Prior to posting browse around and read a bit to understand where and how to post your question.

Hey! I have a drum/pulley setup on my 1959 Crestliner Jetstreak. Have had no problems with it, despite many sharp turns. You have to check on the tension and keep it adjusted.

To address your question, you will have to find either an NOS item on eBay for a premium price, or get one off a junk boat. Junk boats are usually not hard to find.

I've got one in my garage.

Came off a 1965 aroliner. Works just fine, but I wanted the upgrade.

Email me at fgibbins@pangaeainc.com if you're interested.
