Manual choke not fitting?

my merc 50 pull start ('82) has always missed the choke lever and has just had a bit of wire in there... looks rubbish so i splashed out on the lever to mount it right however it just falls in the hole? should there be a rubber gromit or something to grip it?

Does yours look anything like this? Item #11 is a grommet in the front motor support.

no - 10 does look about right - looks like i may need the grommet
