manual release retaining ring

Hi all just wondering how important the retaining clip is on the manual release valve on the tilt trim?:confused:

It keeps the an owner from completely unscrewing the manual release valve stem.

Why do you ask ?? If you have to open the valve , turn it no more than two turns out.
