Re: manual release

1. take the boat out of water so that non-replaceable parts don't end up on bottom of lake

2. put a bucket underneath trim motor to catch parts and oil

3. block motor into a lifted position

4. using blunt object and a mallet gently tap the end of manual release plug so that it moves inward 1/32". This will releive the binding force on retaining clip.

5. remove retaining clip taking care not to damage or lose it. They cost almost $1 each in bulk. Last thing you need is $99 worth of spare retaining clips.

6. remove blocking from engine. plug should pop out and sink to bottom of lake thereby costing you hundreds of dollars to replace.

Re: manual release

If your unit does not have a manual release, then crack all four fittings at the pump until they leak. NOW pull the engine up, spraying the oil everywhere.

There are pressure release valves in the cylinders and pump so the engine will kick up if it hits something. I have found that I am not strong enough to pull the engine up against these release valves. With a good floor jack, you might be able to do it. Lacking that, try three men and a boy.

Of course, if you back up real fast on the ramp with no safety chain then slam on the brakes, then rocket forward again, as you drag the lower unit through the tarmac or concrete, the engine WILL tilt. LOL (One of the shows I have seen at ramps)

Re: manual release

The trim does not keep engine from lifting. So if you want to raise engine then take BOTH tilt tubes lose. Take care not to strip threads on ports. The pump is made of aluminum and the tubing from stainless. It will strip out very easily. Tilt is the one that looks like a shock absorber.
