Looking at buying either a Johnson 76 75hp (75ELR76D) or a Johnson 74 85hp (85ESL74B) both manual trim/tilt.

If anyone wants to weigh in on that decision I'll put details below, but I'm mainly interested in seeing if I could swap in my power tilt/trim from my busted J70TLETS. From looking over diagrams it'll be an involved process of moving the assembly onto the midsection mount held on with the steering arm shaft. Is there a way to find the width specs of the shaft online? I've got side by side diagrams everything *looks* possible, definitely not a 10 minute job but it's also not my first rodeo would be tackling in the spring.

Engines in question
75hp has been fully rebuilt, comes with a mostly complete parts motor. Selling because he upgraded boats and it cant pull a tube anymore but put the love in for long term ownership. It's a 4.5 hour drive and he's asking $1500

85hp is from a marine shop, they took it in on trade and say it runs well, prev owner traded in to buy 4 stroke, adds about 30lbs which isn't the end of the world. Selling because they need to clear space. 2 hour drive and asking $850

Main challenge I'm having is just the PITA of a whole day of driving and extra cash, but having a whole extra motor that he's mostly just taken mounts and bolts from (all electrical, carbs, lower end intact) would be of value because parts are a b****.

The 74 model 85 would be my choice if that matters to you.----It is a 50 year old motor.-----I would not even try and start a 50 year old motor.----It would come apart for complete inspection.----Top and bottom.

I do take your advice quite strongly.

Bath motors are 50 years old, but one has been fully gone through.

The 75hp from 76 has had the following done

Carbs cleaned and rebuilt
Chris Carson fibre reeds with reed blocks lapped and gaskets replaced.
New coils, wires and plugs
New cdi power pack
New water pump
Lower unit oil changed
Have a brand new solas Rubex prop with hub kit 13.2x17.
Exhaust plate been machined flat and all gaskets and bolts replaced
Base gaskets replaced
Fresh paint

The only other motor I was strongly considering was an exact match to my blown 70hp but it was 2k and had been run underpropped for an unknown amount of time by a previous owner, and the asking price of 2k didn't make it appealing,
