'85 Johnson 115. Had to use the manual release screw to tilt my motor during install and now I cant tighten the screw back op. I think there is a spring inside. Do I have to push in pretty hard to get the threads to catch?

Sounds like you possibly backed it out too far and have run into the snap retaining ring. The valve should only be backed out two turns and no more. If the manual valve comes all the way out, this is what probably happened. Look into that hole for what remains of that snap ring and remove it. Install a new O Ring on the valve also as the snap ring will have cut it at least once.

Thanks Joe, yes I backed out past snap ring. Go it all the way out and reinstalled(without new o ring, reuse old one, will get one soon). I started another post about my trim issues, so maybe that (the o ring) is the problem. No leaks though?
