New-to-me boat so it is in the back yard. I don't have the electrics hooked up yet and wanted to tilt the motor up. It lifted maybe 1" and then seemed to lock rather come up further. The two tilt plungers at this point were about 4-5" up.

I turned the "air" screw counter c. and thought if I let the air pressure off I could lift it up - but no go. When I let it down the 1", the motor went down into the vertical position and the two tilt plungers went right down to the casing.

What to do now to get it up into the tilt? Can I do it manually or do I now have to hook up the battery and use the tilt control? Since the tilt is right down, I guess it would be a good time to check the hydraulic fluid.. ?

Fluid should be checked when the motor is fully tilted and Locked in that position.

With the manual screw opened you should be able to lift the motor to full tilt....... it might be heavier then you think

BTW what kind of motor????????

I once had a 1978 in line 90hp with power trim. If battery failed or pump failed you could unscrew the turn screw on the pump and it would lower itself automatically. Conversly you could lift the motor easiest from the bottom all the way to top and the lock with the equipped rotation locks. But much harder going up than down.
