We're trying out a little-used 2006 Tahoe Q4 SF this weekend and are currently inclined to close the deal. Question: I have a fair amount of boating experience but it's long-ago experience, and I don't have any boat-buying experience. When buying a boat nowadays, would one expect to get a manual with the boat? The current owner seems conscientious, and delivered us what he thinks are all the manuals: the Merc 4.3 engine, the trolling motor, the depth finder -- everything's got a manual EXCEPT the boat. He vaguely recalls having the same discussion when he bought the boat and being told boats didn't come with manuals "because everything was so obvious." Ooookay.....:p Tahoe's web site doesn't seem to have a location for downloading PDF product manuals or ordering printed ones. Is there such a thing? I have all sorts of little questions about things like maintenance intervals and such.

Re: Manuals Tahoe Q4

Hi Jim,

Welcome to iBoats and back to boating!

My Tahoe came with an Owner's Manual but it was just basic stuff and safe boating rules. Of course, the manuals I got are for the equipment and options you choose which are the most important. The seller may be right and didn't get one for the boat because its just simple things like dashboard displays and switches, which are self-explanatory.

Yeah, what Rich said. Very basic stuff in the boat manual. Looks like the important ones are there. Maintenance intervals should be in the engine manual.

I would recommend you find a good local boat shop and make friends. Have what work you can't do yourself done there. Ask them about different things you should do and when you should do them. Buy your supplies from them. The more they see you around, the more questions you ask, the more they will be helpful when you need them.

Good luck.

Re: Manuals Tahoe Q4

If you got the manual for the Merc 4.3, that is really the one you want. The manual for my Q7 is relatively useless. My MercCruiser manual has a maintenance log in the back...keep it filled out and up to date!!!!

If you are worried about being rusty from not being on a boat recently...take a online boaters safety course. You will get more from that than you will from the manual.

Re: Manuals Tahoe Q4

Been watching this exchange regarding manuals for a Q4. I just bought a 2005 Q4 Sport 4.3L V-6 and the previous owner has played with the wiring. For instance when the Master Switch is turned on the bow lights work. When you switch the lights to anchor the bow and anchor light works. I'd sure appreciate an instrument panel wiring diagram if someone has it.
Thanks.

Welcome to iboats and the tahoe section. You will find a lot of great info in here. My boat had a manual, but it was not really specific to the boat. It was general safety items and what not to do in a boat. The best way to turn to dock a boat and that type of thing. Sounds like you have all the important manuals you need. The local boat shop could tell you everything that you need to know if you can not find it here.
Now lets see some photos of your new boat when you close the deal.

Edit: Man I got tricked. I looked at the last post date and didn?t realize the date on the original post. Wonder how the boat turned out. Wish I could delete my post.

Normal operation for the master switch is that it has to be on before any other switch s function is possible with exception of the blower . the blower is constant hot to allow purging the motor well prior to using the other functions. Normal operation for the bow and anchor lights are , turn on master, the up position of the nav/anchor switch the bow and the anchor will both work. With the switch in the down position only the anchor light will work. This is standard function for all brand boats.
