MAP gas cylinder for propane application(tabletop patio heater)

I know Map burns hotter.I have used it for soldering /plumbing with slightly better results than propane.Tried to free up a frozen anchor pin in for my mercruiser lift cyliner base with no success so I dont see very much difference.Enjoying a cocktail on an unusually warm evening on my patio with my tabletop patio heater taking the edge off the cool air,the propane cylinder ran out.With my drink only half consumed,I went to the garage for a replacement propane cylinder .I was out of stock but I did have a map cylinder.I was planning on trying it in the heater with the setting on low but decided against it since I hadnt done anything really stupid in quite some time.I wasnt prepared to experiment.Anyone have any experience with using Map?? CC, I would be hesitant to do that without researching and/or asking folks in the know about trying it. I do know that if you swap from Acetylene to Propane for a Propane/Oxygen welding setup, you have to replace the orifice out to make it work. I have such a welding setup. So I would find out b the people that sell such tings first. JMHO!

Using MAP gas cylinder in place of propane on patio heater

Ran out of propane while enjoying a Christmas cocktail on my patio with the unusually warm pm temps .Didnt have a spare cylinder but I did have a map gas cylinder from some recent plumbing/soldering I did.I know map burns hotter than propane but for the few applications I have used map I didnt see much if any difference from propane.I was going to try the map on my tabletop patio heater only using it on low and decided not to without consulting first.Anyone know for sure if it is safe or not recommended? Charlie

Go ahead....Then let me know if it worked, just so I know when it happens to me. Honestly, I'm not sure if it will damage anything.

I looked at my MAPP cylinder and it says use only with valve designed for MAPP gas. I'm guessing that means the earlier post about orifice size is on the money.

So, if you hook it up to a propane designed device, the air/fuel ratio will likely be off and you will have an inefficient flame. Not sure about safety issues, but, IMO, not worth the risk.
