marina etiquette rant

Went to my local marina. As i pulled in a guy was launching a 26' bayliner. As i sat and waited while he lined up and backed in. The ... summers eve feminine product... of an suv driver was blowing his horn at me while he tried to back out. So being nice i rolled up so he could back out and wait while guy launched. After the bayliner was backed in suffiently for safe passage i began to pull forward towards one of my fishing spots by the marina. As i began to roll forward im almost clipped by the DB suv driver as he blows his horn and flips me off.

I sound a long blast and give him a one finger salute. He didn't even want to wait for the guy launching. I really hope the DB suv driver comes back to the marina as the guys who run the stand there have learned my truck as one of the local fisherman who helps keep an eye out for problems.

Sorry for the rant.

Not sure I followed that real well  - you were in your boat, right? If so, maybe better to find a nice quiet, relaxing, blood-pressure lowering, fishing hole well away from the marina ;)

Re: marina etiquette rant

I was in my truck waiting as the ramps divide the marina in half. The south half has a good fishing hole in the creek behind marina. I pulled in as it is marked one way enterance one way exit.

Guy was launching his 26' bayliner so i sat and waited while he launched. As i'm waiting the DB suv driver is trying to back out of a parking spot which im blocking his path. So he starts blowing his horn. I roll forward enough so he could back out and wait too. Once the bayliner is in the water and passage is safe i begin to roll forward towards the south side of the marina.

As i begin to move the DB suv driver cuts in front of me almost clipping my front end while blowing his horn and flipping me off.

I give a long blast of my trucks horn and give him a one finger salute back. At this point everyone (guy and his family launching, other fishermen, guys running the marina stand) is watching. Guys from stand recognize my truck as i spend quite a bit of time there.

Sorry i was upset and post from my phone.

So you just lowered yourself to the other guys level. What good did that do?

Sorry for the rant.

Well, I guess I'd rather be reading about bilge pumps or pulling kids on wakeboards than reading how grown adults can act worse than children.

Your story reads like you were trying to drive thru a launching area in just the truck with no boat to launch.

one time I was waiting for someone to back out of a parking space and before I could get in, someone else zipped in and got it.

Hmmmm. This one needs to die a natural death. Add a smile or two to your local ramp :)

ramp rant posts, which occur every week or so, never go anywhere but down. The offenders aren't reading it and the offended shouldn't expect anything to change. And usually the offended is not so lily white either.

Meanwhile, at the crowded public ramp, there are 5 types:
1 the perfect ones (if they are iboat members they annoy the rest),
2 the learning ones (perhaps incompetent but blameless, might be and should be iboat members),
3 the avergage skilled and considerate ones (the good iboat members),
4 the ones who don't care about anyone but themselves, and
5 the intentionally incompetent who don't try to learn the right way.

While #2 may learn from posts from #3, it isn't going to happen during a ramp rant.
