Marine Band License

I have a new Marine Band Radio installed on my 16ft fishing boat. Do I need a license to operate this? My old radio had a license but has expired. This new radio has DSC and wants a MMSI # to be entered.

in canada, (if i remember correctly) marine no, areonautical....yes.

In the US a license is not required to operate your VHF on the water for your size boat.
A free MMSI# can be had online here: http://www.boatus.com/mmsi/


In Canada As far as I can tell you need a license to operate a marine VHF.

Yep, you need a Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) - ROC(M)
