Marine Battery Maintenance

I've had the same battery for over 10 years, and with my boat trip today it went from fully charged to the next level down in the time it took me to drive to the lake, then went quickly to the recharge state (though it hung in there surprisingly long and I made it back to the ramp). My pattern is this: In spring I charge the battery. Take the boat out. A month or two later I charge the battery; take the boat out. Maybe a third time over the summer then the battery is left uncharged until Spring, when the pattern repeats. Should I be doing something different with the new battery that I'm going to be buying? Thanks.

Silly me. The battery was bone dry. I filled it with distilled water. Do you think it will come back? Thanks.

Re: Marine Battery Maintenance

Who knows. Marine batteries are free maintenance sealed ones, better is to have the battery medium charged all year long when not in use, could use a solar conditioner charger or a 110/12 V conditioner & charger to do so. Go for a full charge 1 day before it's time to go boating.

Happy Boating
