Marine Gear oil

I have a question about what the API GL-5 means in reference to rating of gear oil. I found in the service manual for my boats lower unit that I need to put oil with an API GL-5 rating in it. Does that mean it is marine or what?
The lower unit on my boat is a Cobra SX 1997 model

It's not marine only. Any manufacturers gear lube that is rated as GL-5 will work just fine. Might want to look at your manual again, it probably says GL-5 Synthetic.

The gear oil is Castrol Edge full Synthetic gear oil 75W-90 API GL - 5. I think now I will be good to go.
