marine grade plywood vs treated

Hi,
I'm getting ready to deck out my 1996 Lowe Deep V fishing boat. I was going to use treated plywood from my local hardware store but was told that even though it was treated , that it would buckle in a few years. They said always use marine grade plywood. Is this true or will treated work just as well?

ps any web sights on how to deck out a boat ? I see wiring questions in some forums.... Is there a one stop place to get some direction and ideas?

Marine grade is a lot stronger than "treated", or exterior grade, Dennis. It is also a lot easier to finish.

Lowe is a pretty good boat. It deserves the best.

PT will out live you and while it may not be as strong as
marine grade it should work fine.I have 3/4 inch on my seats and a small front deck spanning over 30 inches.
Also did the transom. All are over 20 years old.Transom unpainted and unsealed. All still solid no rotting cracking or delamination.Just check for compatibility with aluminum. It needs to dry well before painting.

Re: marine grade plywood vs treated

Marine grade is made of more and thinner laminates which insures increased strength (comparable to cabinet grade plywood) for a given thickness. Reason is strength vs weight as weight is always a problem with boats.

Additionally, it is glued together with marine (water resistant) glue. Has nothing to do with the wood's ability to resist water/parasites. Wood is wood.

To protect it you have to apply a protective agent.
