Hello,

I am re doing some of the interior of my boat and am having trouble finding some hardware,

I have posted some pictures

My best description is a bolt that has sharp edges to grab the wood to prevent the screw head from spinning when you are tightening the nut.

the panel i am re doing, has a screw under the foam and vinyl so in order to attach it back on the boat i need them .

Thanks for your help

Re: Marine hardware question

It's a tee-nut.

The big box stores have them in plain steel, if you want them to last you can get them in stainless steel from a marine store.

Your originals rusted away because they were plain steel, at least they used stainless screws.

Re: Marine hardware question

yep... all tee-nuts do...... Also the nut generally used that way to keep the screw from turning... the screw is supposed to be put in through the other panel (whatever you are attaching the padded panel too) and into the tee-nut goes in from the opposite side of the panel... IE inside the panel/cushion before you add foam and vinyl

This is not to say that it can't be done the way yours is but just that it is an improvised method.... If it works for you then go for it.....

yes the screws are stainless, but this is all original hardware, so i think 21 years with a steel tee nut isnt to bad.

Actually the wood rotting was the main reason for replacment

Its funny the floor is solid all around, but little places this the side panel and some seats cushions were rotted out, But thankfully they are all easy & cheap repairs for the DIYer

I think i need to install the tee nut that way because that panel attached onto the fiberglass rail with a flat washer and locknut. If its worked for wellcraft, it'll work for me.

Finding SS T-nuts locally may be tough. The box stores usually don't carry them, just steel. If you have a decent marine store, you might find them there. If not, order online. Standard size is 1/4" x 20. The larger panels use 5/16".

Lowes carries them. Look in the specialty hardware drawers in the fastener aisle.
