Marine Insurance in Ontario

Hello, I just bought a 88 Chris Craft 205 and every Marine Insurance company wants a survey. My home, car insurance company wants nearly 600 dollars a year. Does anyone know of another marine insurer that doesn't require a survey? It may be weeks before I get a survey done.

Cheers

416-646-0199 this is my insurance broker. I have my boat insured through them ( forgot which company) my boat is somehow similar to yours (1998 chris craft 260 sportdeck)... I pay about $300 per year... For the record, i have no affiliation whatsoever with them, i just get good customer service every time i call and i have not need to use them... Also no survey way required, just the bill of sale when i got it... Good luck

I use Seaworthy Insurance through GEICO full coverage on my 87 trojan 29' cabin cruiser is $260 a year.....all they wanted was for me to snap some photos and e-mail them to them. Not sure if that is available in Canada but worth a look.

Re: Marine Insurance in Ontario

When I insured my boat with State Farm a couple of years ago they didn't ask for a survey or even pictures. I was shopping around for cheaper insurance this spring and Allstate was the cheapest but they required a survey or letter of seaworthiness on any boats older than 1990 ( I think that was the year). The cost of a survey negates any savings on the insurance plus at this time of year there was a considerable waiting time for anyone to do the survey. So I'm staying with State Farm for now.

I'm with Aviva in Ontario. About $350 a year, $20k insurance on a 17ft Aluminum, no survey required.

Thank you everyone. I called a local broker and told them about my boat and the lack of survey. They arranged with Pacific Marine.

Everything I have is with State Farm, but my Seadoo and boat are with Marine companies, SF just cannot compare.

Happy boating.
