What does marine oil in 4 stroke yamaha 115 outboard suppose to look like? Is is suppose to honey colored w/ the same consistency as car motor oil?

I looked at a boat yesterday. After a test ride, i pulled the dipstick to look at the oil forgetting that the motor was slightly tilted up. Some oil gushed out but it wasn't the same color and consistency of motor oil. It was like milk chocolate. This must be BAD and representative of the "milky" color I've been reading about.

That doesn't sound good. After an entire season of boating (admitedly a shortish 50 hours or so of running) the oil in my 4 stroke Yammy 90 has gone darker but nothing like what you've described.

honey colored=fresh=good
brownish colored=used=think about changing soon
black colored=used=change
tan,off white,cream colored=water in your oil=fix it

follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual and use the recommended oils and filters etc....

"Milk Chocolate" and CHOCOLATE MILK are two VERY different descriptions.

Chocolate Milk = Water mixed with your oil -- VERY BAD!
Mile Chocolate = Old oil - Change it.
