Marine starters advertised but do not say SAE J1171

I'm looking for a marine starter to fit an SBC w/153 tooth ring gear flywheel.
I see all kinds of "marine" starters advertised on Amazon and eBay by these XYZelectrical companies including a detailed listing of the various marine engines that their starters fit. But nowhere do I see any references to these starters being SAE J1171 certified.
Is this even legal to sell "marine" starters without that certification?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Of all the marine starters I've changed, not a single 1 of 'em had that sticker on it, yet they're all Marine rated starters,.....

Thanks, Bondo.
I've been lurking on here for years.
Anyway, so what happens if you have a fire and your insurance company finds out you have a starter without the SAE J1171 certification?
They might try to deny your claim.

You are worried that the insurance company won't find the burnt up SAE J1171 sticker? :)

Ayuh,.... Stickers are the 1st thing to fall off,... or burn up,....

If anybody wanted to push it, just takin' the starter apart would tell all the story,.... forensic evidence,....

Yeah, I think I'm going to err on the side of caution and find one that has the SAE J1171 certification.
Would be too easy for an insurance adjuster to cut one open and tell if it was really a certified marine starter or just a painted over auto starter.

If an insurer is going to go after someone that bought a marine starter and it turned out that it wasn't they would sue the seller. Just hold onto the receipt. I don't think they would go that far though.
