marine versis automotive solenoid

I have a 1966 60Hp Evenrude Mod# 60633R I Know that the solenoid supplys a ground to the cutout switch Now my question is, As a tempory unit only I have installed an automotive solenoid in place of the marine one and im not sure if to the cutout switch works with the ground applyed or not so in order not to fry anything to shut the eng. off is it applyed ground or break in the ground

The one thing about using an automotive electrical part is the possibility of sparks ignition gas fumes under the hood, making a loud boom and causing damage and injury. When a solenoid energizes and de-energizes, a large spark is present inside of it.<br /><br />Marine parts are made to contain sparks, where in car applications, they don't have to worry about them.
