I have a newly acquired Sea Squirt with a Mariner 115. I think it is a 1985, the first issue is the fact that I cannot get the trim to raise off the transom saver. The pump spins to go down but not up. This will be the first step in getting her up and running or determining if the efforts are futile. The boat has sat for years, but I am aware of the reputation of this old outboard. I hope there is life left. Is there a way to raise this engine manually so I can then get to the repairs?
Thanks Allen

Swap the wires on the relays and see if up now works..----Find the manual release screw / valve.----See if it is open now.----Post what you find.-----Compression test is step #1 on this MERCURY ( ? ) inline 6 -----Clean the carburetors.----A new water pump impeller before your first fishing trip.

Judging by the looks of the transom , I am not sure if I would go out in that boat.

Do you have any bolts on the lower part of the transom clamp? Normally you would have 4 bolts, spread out evenly, two in a top hole and two in a bottom hole. I see 2 bolts in the top holes of the transom clamp on the port side.

Good eye, I would have never caught that. This boat was a gift and I am learning. I am trying to determine if it is worth fixing.

OK, when you drill the bottom holes, see what the condition of the shavings are. Some think you have a bad transom. The shavings will help confirm/deny that.

Obviously from the pictures the transom is roached, and it looks like Papa Roach has made some roachy repairs. I am not concerned about that because 1) I paid nothing for the boat. 2) Transom in a can (Arjay 6011) comes UPS. 3) The compression test scored 130 PSI in all 6 cylinders. Yeah she needs some love, but has some good bones. I already acquired a water pump kit and am about to service the fuel system. The throttle linkage that is broken ha its replacement ordered and the up trim solenoid is on its way. The question for today is: will 5/16 fuel line be a problem on a 115 ? I bought 5/16 and later realized that 3/8 was on the boat. The automotive parts store will not return it.

The engine starts at the first turn of the key with fogging oil. Today I drained the old gas and am ready to run new hose. The problem is I bought 5/16 instead of 3/8 will this be an issue for a 115 horse power?
