I have a 1979 Mariner 140 Hp. outboard. It is tough to get started and I often have to also use my power pack to get more RPM's as it is trying to start. Once it is running it will start with a touch of the key. But once it cools down the whole process starts again. Anyone ever experienced this dilemma?

Choke or enricher isn't working, or starting procedure is wrong.

I go through a whole sequence, including checking the phase of the moon for a quick cold start. Warm start is a bump of the key.

Figured it out.

Battery did not have enough cold cranking amps so I went to a two battery system. Now motor spins up much faster. I make sure bulb is pumped up, apply no idle and choke it til it catches.
